Casting has been completed for the upcoming concert production of Howard Goodall’s The Hired Man. Joining the previously announced Jenna Russell and John Owen-Jones on September 22nd will be Séan Kearns (Wicked, The Commitments) as Pennington, Jessica Louise Parkinson (Love Beyond) as Sally, and James Moore (Matilda) as Harry. They will line up alongside the author Melvyn Bragg as the narrator.
The front line also includes Matthew Seadon-Young (Billy Elliot, Urinetown) as Jackson, Evelyn Hoskins (Carrie, Spring Awakening) as May, Nigel Richards (Phantom of the Opera) as Isaac and Stewart Clarke (Assassins) as Seth. The concert is being conducted by Andrew Linnie (The Commitments), and directed by Samuel Hopkins, with projection design by Barret Hodgson and sound design by Seeta Mistry.
Completing the ensemble are Charlotte Ball, Stephen Barry, Matthew Bateman, Andrew Bateup, Laura Baxter, James Boyce, Devon Braithwaite, Séan Carey, Sian Crisp, Chris Currid, Olivia Faulkner, Laura Bella Griffin, Andrew Halliday, Emma Harrold, James Humpleman, Holly-Anna Lloyd, Alan McHale, Owen McHugh, Jacob Morris, Hilary Murnane, Luke Osborne, Bethany Relf, Hannah Richards, Oliver Stanley, and Polly Wolf.
Set in the agricultural and industrial heartlands of Cumbria at the turn of the 20th century, The Hired Man follows the paths of John and Emily Tallentire as they go from two young lovers, setting off in married life together, to parents trying to eke out an existence for their family as war looms across the continent.
