Featuring one of the most breathtaking, award-winning title-tracks ‘Flashdance – What a Feeling’, Performance Preparation Academy 3rd Year Musical Theatre Diploma graduates present the show stopping, smash-hit musical sensation Flashdance the Musical at The Electric Theatre, Guildford, from 25-27th February.
Based on the 1983 Paramount Pictures film Flashdance, the musical is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and revolves around 18-year-old Alex, a welder by day and ‘flashdancer’ by night and her dreams of attending the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. Receiving it’s UK world premiere staging in 2008, the electrifying musical exploded onto the London stage in 2010, wowing audiences with its jam-packed pulsating raw energy and sizzling dance routines.
When Alex catches the eye of her boss Nick Hurley, their romance shows her the true meaning of love which encourages and drives her ambition to chuck her gritty tough life and escape her claustrophobic humdrum existence in Pittsburgh to pursue her dream career in ballet. Alex certainly seems to have the talent but does she possess the raw nerve to succeed?
Those already familiar with the iconic film of the same title and newcomers alike won’t want to miss PPA’s production of this landmark musical which is packed with explosive, dazzling choreography of a variety of styles and boasts an unforgettable score which, in addition to the title song, also features the much-loved hits ‘Manhunt’ ‘Maniac’and ‘Gloria’. It is easy to see why the UK premiere was fast acknowledged as “as an unmistakably unique musical about holding onto your dreams and love against all the odds”.
With a book by Tom Hedley and Robert Carey, music by Robbie Roth, and lyrics by Robert Carey and Robbie Roth, PPA’s production will be directed by Christopher Howell, with musical direction by Simon Lambert and choreography by Louise Pieri. Unmissable.
This amateur production is being presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd. on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York.
