‘For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?’
Pride and Prejudice centres on the Bennet family, following the five unmarried daughters of Mr and Mrs Bennet after the arrival of Mr Bingley, a wealthy single man, into the neighbourhood and his seemingly arrogant friend, Mr Darcy.
Portraying Jane Austen’s sharp and humerous perception of her own world in the early nineteenth century, Pride and Prejudice explores themes of love, class and reputation as well as the imprudence of judging someone on a first meeting.
