Chris Hornby was an actor and director in London’s West End, who died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 43.
At the time of his death, Chris was the Resident Director for Disney’s The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, having performed the same role for Cameron Mackintosh on his production of Oliver! at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Prior to that he had been a choreographer, dance captain, and actor.
Chris was loved and respected throughout the industry and especially well known for his love of nurturing young upcoming talent.
The Chris Hornby Fund has been set up to continue Chris’ work with young performers by offering a bursary at The Arts Educational School.
Chris himself received a bursary to study at Arts Ed and because of this his life and the lives of many others were changed.
Let’s give someone else that chance.
Chris Hornby was a wonderful ambassador of ArtsEd, especially the School of Musical Theatre. Chris’ contribution to West `End theatre was enormous, not only for his talent both on and off stage, but also for someone who tirelessly helped develop the skills of professional performers.
We are honoured to have a scholarship in his name that will allow a student to fulfil their ambitions and dreams to attend the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre programme at The Arts Educational Schools, London – ArtsEd.
We are delighted that the very first recipient will be Joe Thomas and Joe will commence his training in September. Joe said, “I am so honoured to be chosen as the first Chris Hornby Scholar and I will do all I can to honour Chris’ memory.”
– Chris Hocking, Deputy Principle, Arts Ed.
