The hit Broadway musical, Hamilton, written by Lin Manuel Miranda, opened on Broadway in 2015 and has also been playing in London’s West End since late 2017 to sold out audiences.
A performance of the Original Broadway Cast was filmed back in 2016 and was due to be released on the new Disney+ TV channel in late 2021.
However, due to the Coronavirus, Worldwide lockdown, it has been announced today that the live performance recording will be released more than a year earlier than planned, on 3 July 2020.
The official Broadway Twitter account tweeted “Shout it to the rooftops! The original Broadway production of
@HamiltonMusical, filmed LIVE onstage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, is now coming exclusively to
@DisneyPlus this July 3rd.”
Alexander Hamilton made his way to America at the age of 19 and was a dedicated supporter of American Independence. Alongside Aaron Burr and three other revolutionaries John Laurens, Marquis de Lafayette and Hercules Mulligan, the men dreamed of laying down their lives for their political cause. Working alongside George Washington, Hamilton helped The Continental Army become victorious and America was freed from the British and King George. But whilst Hamilton’s political future was bright, his personal reputation was ruined by scandal. Read the full review from the West End production here
So, if you haven’t had a chance to be ‘in the room where it happens’ live at the theatre then you don’t have to wait much longer before you can see it in the comfort of your own home, on Disney+ from 3 July 2021.
