An electrifying new professional revival of Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak’s hit musical Godspell will be performed at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre in Walthamstow for 16 performances from September 25th – October 10th 2021, following a scheduled postponement from its planned May 2021 opening.
A community of lost disciples are brought together by following the words of a reinvented contemporary Jesus Christ. Taking messages from the gospel of Matthew and ultimately leading to his crucifixion, Jesus teaches his new tribe the value of love, hope and friendship through the medium of storytelling, song and dance. Complete with a fresh, new vibe and re-orchestrated score by Stephen Schwarz, the composer of Wicked and Prince of Egypt, and featuring hits such as ‘Day by Day’ and ‘Beautiful City’. This fully-staged powerhouse belter of a show will raise the roof and have you dancing in the aisles.
GODSPELL will feature Alex White (Adeline/ Peter Pandemic) as Jesus, Josh Hanley (Eastenders/ Betty Blue Eyes) as John the Baptist/ Judas, Eleanor Walsh (Titanic, Aspects of Love), Martine J. Berg (Hot Mess), Reece McKenzie (Hair), Kimberley Ensor (Mamma Mia), Daniel Noah (Naked Boys Singing, Imagine This), Joe Churms (Sweet Charity), Laura Hyde (Bark, Twelfth Night) and Naomi Cowe (Love’s Labour’s Lost, Play On).
Godspell will be the third production produced by Brendan Matthew (who also directs), Laurel Dougall and Laura Hyde for CR8TRACT Theatre and Jim Shields. Benjamin Levy will musical direct and the show will feature choreography by Matthew, Laura Hyde and Connor Lewis, Ashen Gupta will associate direct, with lighting by Matthew Swithinbank and sound design by Daniel Mawson.
