Hidden away behind St Martins Lane (in the heart of theatreland), down William IV Street, is The Jones Family Affair. Set up by a group of friends, this independent restaurant and bar centres itself around the ethos of ‘enjoying time with friends’.
From the moment you walk through the doors you feel instantly welcome and at home. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a warm and relaxing vibe.
Their sister site The Jones Family Kitchen was recently been listed as one of the top ten steakhouses in London (2019) by Steak Society, and last year as having one of the best nut roasts in London by Condé Nast Traveller. And I foresee a few awards heading The Jones Family Affair’s way.
The very reasonably priced pre-theatre-dining menu – £19.50 (2 Courses) or £23.50 (3 Courses) – creates a nice balance of meat, vegetarian and fish dishes and so there is something there for everyone.
We ordered off of the main menu, starting with Duck Egg & Wild Mushrooms, Potato rosti, spinach, chive bearnaise (£9.50) and Crispy Courgette with Sriracha mayo (£4.00), followed by their signature main dish, Tamworth Pork Chop with chorizo, new potatoes, spinach, confit garlic & paprika butter, black pudding (£23.50) and the Sirloin Steak (£28.00).
I didn’t want to write this review because I feel like I’ve discovered a secret gem in London and selfishly, I don’t want anyone else to know about it except for me (who has already planned their next visit).
