Disney's The Lion King

COMING SOON

The Lion King has been playing at the Lyceum since 1999 and continues to book with no end date in sight, so there’s no confirmed next show. I’ll update this page as soon as anything changes.

BEST SEATS AT THE LYCEUM THEATRE

The Lyceum Theatre has three seating levels: Stalls, Royal Circle and Grand Circle. With over 2,200 seats it’s one of the biggest theatres in the West End, giving The Lion King’s puppetry and staging plenty of room to breathe.

STALLS

The Stalls hold 945 seats and put you close to the stage, ideal for catching the detail in the show’s famous puppetry, including the animals that parade through the aisles. Central rows give the best all-round view.

ROYAL CIRCLE

The Royal Circle holds 658 seats and offers a fantastic overview of the stage, letting you appreciate the full scale of the production’s set pieces and choreography.

GRAND CIRCLE

The Grand Circle holds 611 seats and is the highest, most affordable level. Thanks to the theatre’s grand scale, it’s still a great vantage point for the show’s spectacle.

HOW TO GET TO THE LYCEUM THEATRE

The Lyceum Theatre is on Wellington Street, right by Covent Garden. The nearest tube station is Covent Garden (Piccadilly line), just a couple of minutes’ walk away, with Charing Cross and Temple also close by.

ABOUT THE LYCEUM THEATRE

A theatre has stood on this site since 1765, with the current building dating from 1834, designed by Samuel Beazley. It became famous during Henry Irving and Ellen Terry’s celebrated 31-year partnership from 1871 to 1902, staging numerous Shakespeare productions, with Bram Stoker working as the theatre’s business manager throughout much of that time.

The venue closed as a theatre in 1939 and spent decades as the Lyceum Ballroom, hosting major rock bands, before being restored to theatrical use in 1996. Disney’s The Lion King has played here since September 1999, making it one of the longest-running musicals in West End history. The theatre is owned and operated by ATG Entertainment.

Is the Lyceum Theatre okay for vertigo sufferers?

Something to think about, yes – the Grand Circle is well known among regular theatregoers as one of London’s more vertigo-inducing tiers, being both very high above the stalls and steeply raked; most people find any dizziness settles once they’re seated. It’s reached via around 83 steps, or a lift from the Exeter Street entrance, though the lift still leaves a few steps to some rows, and the rails at the end of the aisles are fairly low. If you’d rather avoid it, the Stalls or Royal Circle are much gentler, and the box office can talk you through the step-free route.

HOW DO I BOOK TICKETS FOR THE LYCEUM THEATRE?

You can book tickets for The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre directly through the official show website. I’d always recommend booking through the show’s own site or a trusted official retailer to avoid inflated resale prices.
