After six years playing the lead role of Donna in the West End production of Mamma Mia!, Mazz Murray hung up her platform boots last night, teasing ‘news very soon’.
When Mazz Murray commits to a role, she really commits. She spent 9 years in the West End production of We Will Rock You and before her six year stint in Mamma Mia! playing Donna Sheridan, she had previous played the role of Tanya for two years.
Last night, Mazz Murray hung up her spandex for the final time in what was sure to be an emotional performance. After the show, she thanked fans at stage door and teased “there will be news very soon”.
Many years ago, when Mazz was playing Tanya in Mamma Mia!, I asked her what her dream roles would be to play.
Amongst the answers were Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street, Fraulien Koste in Cabaret, Grizabella in Cats and Madame Thénardier in Les Miserables.
Could we see Mazz in one of her dream roles next?
Les Miserables is currently celebrating 40 years in the West End with a special anniversary cast but from 3 November, ‘most’ of the main cast are set to return to the show – meaning not all.
Could Mazz be climbing the barricades next, swapping the sunny greek islands for France?
