Isabel Renner gets the party started in Wyld Woman: The Legend of Shy Girl at Southwark Playhouse

Walking in to the auditorium I was encouraged to fill out a name badge that declared something I already knew – that I am a legend ;).
Set in a New York apartment, we meet ‘shy girl’ and she’s ready to party! Surrounded by pink pastel balloons, shy girl tells us about her life – her neurotic flatmate and best friend Memphis, her job at a fancy french restaurant (frequented with celebrities) and the man she has fallen in love with, Pino. She consults her therapist on the phone for advice on what to do to overcome her timidity and become the legend she knows she really is.
The only problem is, she’s barely ever spoken to Memphis (out loud at least), she isn’t very good at her job because she is so quiet and the love of her life Pino, doesn’t know she exists. Oh, and her therapist is actually a six year old girl that she babysits.
Isabelle Renner does a fine job with the script in this one-person play. She interacts with the audience, referring to people by their name (thanks to the handy name tags) as though we are all her friends. She switches between voices to portray different characters and even does some interpretive ballet!
Wyld Woman: The Legend of Shy Girl started off at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024 and it is a perfectly cute hour of comedy and story telling. A charming little show, bursting with love and hope. Legend.
