Sumo wrestlers in London’s newest experience – Tokyo Nights

Seven former professional Sumo wrestlers from Japan take part in London’s newest immersive cultural, dining and theatrical experience – Tokyo Nights

Taking place at Borough Hall in Greenwich, Tokyo Nights was originally announced as a limited 2 week run but following overwhelming demand and sold out performances, the production has now been extended until 8 July 2026, with limited final tickets available at www.tokyonights.com.

THE PERFORMERS

Tokyo Nights features an extraordinary line-up of former professional Sumo wrestlers from Japan, including Daishohou, Kyokushuho, Hidenoumi, Shiden, Daikiho (also known as Yamaguchi), Narutaki and Gochozan, bringing decades of elite experience, power and tradition to London.

Together, these accomplished rikishi have competed across the highest levels of professional Sumo, with careers spanning the top makuuchi division and the juryo ranks.

Their styles show the full spectrum of Sumo, from the commanding yotsu-zumo and belt-fighting expertise of Daishohou, Kyokushuho, Hidenoumi and Shiden, to the explosive pushing and thrusting attacks of Daikiho and Narutaki, and the charismatic flair of Gochozan, known for his entertaining approach and love of the unexpected.

Collectively, they embody the strength, discipline, technical skill and deep respect for tradition that have made Sumo Japan’s national sport.

THE EXPERIENCE

More than a dining experience or sporting spectacle, Tokyo Nights is a journey into Sumo culture, where ancient ritual meets contemporary entertainment and the spirit of Tokyo collides with the energy of London.

Developed in close creative collaboration with a Japanese team of advisers and practitioners, the production draws on the traditions and rituals of Sumo, the flavours of Tokyo’s culinary scene and the city’s distinctive atmosphere to create a bold new cultural experience for London audiences.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into a world inspired by Tokyo after dark, before the Japanese and UK commentary team guide them through the rules, rituals and traditions of Sumo. From there, the evening unfolds through live competition, storytelling, dining and spectacle, immersing audiences in one of Japan’s most iconic cultural traditions.

At the heart of the show is a tournament to crown the Tenko Muso, the ‘One Who is Peerless Under Heaven’.

Throughout the evening, powerful rikishi compete in a celestial contest between mythological Heyas (Sumo teams) inspired by the traditional guardians of Sumo. Every guest becomes part of the story, assigned to a Heya and encouraged to support their team as rivalries build and the atmosphere intensifies around the Dohyō.

THE FOOD

Food is provided by Sticks’n’Sushi, whose menus showcase both classic sushi and inventive signature dishes that celebrate texture, flavour and presentation.

Combining sustainably sourced ingredients with exceptional craftsmanship, the dining experience forms an integral part of Tokyo Nights’ immersive Japanese inspired world, complemented by premium sake from Kay Sake, whisky cocktails from Nikka Whisky, and curated drinks experiences inspired by the energy and atmosphere of Tokyo after dark.

THE CREATIVE TEAM

The production is brought to life by a world-class creative team whose credits include the acclaimed Grand Expedition, Chambers of Flavour, Secret Cinema, and luxury experiences on the Orient Express and at Soho House.

Set design is by Sally Hogarth, creating an immersive environment that transforms Greenwich Borough Hall into a vibrant world inspired by contemporary Tokyo and the traditions of Sumo.

The visual aesthetic has been shaped in collaboration with Tokyo-based, London-born artist David Sharibani (Lord K2), whose artwork features throughout the experience and provided key inspiration for the show’s creative vision.

Visitors can tailor their evening with premium Dohyō-side dining, Action Zone tickets that place them close to the competition, or balcony seating offering panoramic views of the spectacle. A curated selection of sake flights, cocktails and Japanese-inspired drinks experiences will complement the evening.

Tokyo Nights is running until 8 July 2026, promising to be an unforgettable experience for London – a cultural, culinary and theatrical adventure not to be missed.
