Voila! Theatre Festival is back for another three weeks of genuinely international theatre and this year’s programme is its biggest yet: 101 shows and events performed in 60 different languages, spread across eight London venues.
The festival runs from 2nd to 22nd November 2026, with around 450 artists taking part. Tickets and the full programme are available now at voilafestival.co.uk.
Host venues this year are Barons Court Theatre, Canal Cafe Theatre, Etcetera Theatre, The Playground Theatre, Theatro Technis, The Space Theatre, Upstairs at the Gatehouse and the festival’s home and producer, The Cockpit – each of them a regular launchpad for early-career artists getting their work seen across the capital.
Voila! expanded into a multi-venue festival back in 2024 with support from Arts Council England, and went on to post record-breaking ticket sales in 2025, so this year’s jump to 101 shows feels like a festival hitting its stride. What’s stayed constant is the grassroots ethos, welcoming to artists and audiences alike, even as the ambition keeps growing.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
The whole programme is built around language – as many of them as possible. Over three weeks there are performances, live streams, workshops and events, with a real focus on underrepresented artists and stories from every corner of the world. Voila! calls its programme “panlingual” rather than multilingual: it’s not different languages sitting side by side as fixed categories, but culture and language flowing and changing together.
To keep it accessible, over half the programme is performed in English and at least one other language, and anything not performed in English comes with subtitles or surtitles. The aim is as much about venues engaging with their non-English-speaking local communities as it is about audiences discovering something new.
THE THEATRE DELI RESIDENCY AWARD
Theatre Deli wasn’t able to programme any shows directly at their venue this year, but they’re still backing one Voila! show through a development residency – financial support, free rehearsal space and mentoring from their staff. This year’s winner is Romeo Lau with Blondie Blue Eyes, which will be presented at Canal Cafe Theatre.
SHOWS TO WATCH
With 101 shows on offer there’s no covering everything, but here’s a flavour of what’s on at each venue.
The Cockpit
The Radical Wedding Engine – part wedding, part performance (with actual treats), from Ensemble Not Found, a London-based collective of five first-generation ESEA migrant artists.
Legend of Kaliakra – the story of forty maidens who chose death over slavery, directed by Elica Yovcheva with poetic texts by Mirela Ivanova of the Bulgarian National Theatre “Ivan Vazov”. Performed in Bulgarian with English surtitles.
Barons Court Theatre
The Habit of Getting Used to It – Nessuno Collective (Argentina/Chile/Spain) build a performance as a collage of everyday life. It’s the first recipient of the new Instituto Cervantes x Voila! Grant, supporting Hispanic artists presenting work at the festival.
Lament of the Wandering Head – Taiwan-based Sun Son Theatre turn a Southeast Asian flying-head myth into an exploration of diaspora and identity, weaving live music and physical movement across Penang Hokkien and Mandarin.
Etcetera Theatre
The Gummy Bears’ Great War – Italian company Batisfera’s object theatre show, staged on a tabletop with real sweets and tiny lights for a handful of spectators at a time. It arrives at Voila! off the back of four-star reviews from The Stage and The Telegraph at Edinburgh Fringe 2025.
The Playground Theatre
Much Crazy About Nothing – Lan Maika / Shhh Theatre’s surreal new play about professional breakup agents hired to end relationships on their clients’ behalf, until one of them starts questioning the whole system.
Theatro Technis
Windows of Displacement – Akeim Toussaint Buck’s autobiographical solo, blending dance, song and spoken word to explore ancestral memory and the politics of migration.
The Space Theatre
Heaven to Earth Plus – a Ukrainian soldier’s autobiographical story, told through music, poetry and folk songs by Shum Ukrainian Theatre Community, supported by the Barbican’s Imagine Fund and Old Diorama Arts Centre.
Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Brewtopia – Natasha Markou (London Production Studios) returns after a sell-out run at Voila! 2025 with an intimate two-hander asking what it really means to help someone.
Basilitrix – Out of This Crow Productions’ Polish family folk-rock musical about sisterhood, courage and the search for truth.
