Following acclaimed runs at the Edinburgh, Brighton Dublin Fringe Festivals, Little Fly Theatre is delighted to announce the London Premiere of one-woman play Rachael’s Café at the Old Red Lion Theatre from Tuesday 25 February 2014 (press night Friday 28 February at 7.30pm). On sale now.
Eric Wininger is a churchgoing, motorbiking, loving husband and father of three, living a small-town life in Bloomington, Indiana. But when he begins living his life as Rachael Jones, there are inevitable consequences. Based on interviews with Rachael herself, Rachael’s Café is the true story of an ordinary man in an unusual situation, who risks everything to be true to himself. From bigoted Texans to shocking family revelations via run-in’s at airport security, an unexpected call from Obama, and the creation of a friendly, inclusive café, Rachael’s story is told with frankness and a great sense of humour in this heart-warming one-woman show, which comes to London after acclaimed runs at the Edinburgh, Brighton and Dublin Fringe Festivals. Welcome to Rachael’s Café, where everyone is welcome… no exceptions.
Rachael’s Café is written and directed by Lucy Danser, who met Rachael in her café whilst living in Indiana. Rachael’s Café was written over a two-year period, created from in depth interviews with Rachael.
Rachael is played by Graham Elwell, who created the role at 2011’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Other recent theatre credits include Headcase at the Tristan Bates Theatre, Termination at Southwark Playhouse, Shakespeare’s Sonnets at the Globe Theatre, A Dog Called Redemption at Manchester Library Theatre and Jekyll and Hyde at the Union Theatre.
Rachael’s Café is written and directed by Lucy Danser, with lighting design by Owen Evans. It is produced by Little Fly Theatre.
