LONDON, (25 March, 2014) – Ticketmaster UK last night announced the winners of its first ever Ticketmaster Blog Awards.

The new awards have been created to recognise the best blogs and digital publications across live entertainment – from music and sport, to theatre. A total of 35 blogs were nominated across seven categories which were then put to the public vote. Over a six week period, Ticketmaster received almost 10,000 votes.

Simon Presswell, Managing Director, Ticketmaster UK, said: “In recent years independent blogs and online publications have taken greater prominence in the entertainment industry, drawing readers away from traditional print media, and now play a vital role in the live entertainment industry.

“As part of our commitment to celebrating this industry, we want to put the spotlight on those that are writing about and celebrating live events for fans across the country.”

Hosted by TV Presenter and Xfm DJ Phil Clifton, the awards were held in Ticketmaster’s very own office event space in London, The Imperial, and were attended by over 100 guests including bloggers (some travelling as far as Edinburgh and York), musicians (including Hounds, Killa Kela, Them & Us, Jakil), record label execs, media, PR and marketing professionals.

Entertainment was in the form of an acoustic and DJ set from rock group The Howling, and the winners were presented with an award on stage by Simon Presswell.

A personal note from Wilma:
“Thank you so much for this award.

I accept it on behalf of everyone who was nominated along side me. We are all winners and I am so happy to see us bloggers getting recognised for what we do.

If someone told me two years ago that I would be here today, winning an award, I wouldn’t have believed them. But it just goes to show that no matter how old you are, if you are passionate about what you believe in then you can make any dream comes true.

I would like to thank every single person who voted for me. It means so much to have had your support over the past two years. Thank you for humouring this crazy old lady and her musings about theatre, jazz hands and of course the odd glass of wine!”
