The stage adaptation of A Room with a View will open at the Theatre Royal Bath on Thursday 6th October. Following a two week run in Bath the production embarks on a UK tour prior to the West End.
The cast features Felicity Kendal (Charlotte Bartlett), Imogen Sage (Lucy Hornchurch), Tom Morley (George Emerson), Charlie Anson (Cecil Vyse), Joanne Pearce (Eleanor Lavish), David Killick (Rev’d Cuthbert Eager), Susie Fairfax’s (Miss Teresa Alan), Abigail McKern (Signora Bertolini / Mrs Honeychurch), Jeff Rawle (Mr Emerson), Simon Jones (Mr Beebe) and Jack Loxton (Freddy).
English rose Lucy Honeychurch is touring Italy with her prim spinster cousin Charlotte Bartlett, as chaperone. Charlotte is quick to step in when Lucy makes the mistake of fraternising with the lower-class Mr Emerson and his son George at their Florentine pension. However, when she witnesses Lucy and George actually kissing, she has no option but to whisk Lucy away to Rome. Back home at the family’s Surrey estate Lucy becomes engaged to the eminently suitable (but priggish and pretentious) Cecil Vyse. Charlotte has sworn Lucy to secrecy over the kiss with George, but will Lucy be able to repress her feelings when she discovers that the Emersons have taken a house in the village?
With its cast of vivid characters, this elegant comedy written in 1908 is widely recognized as one of the finest novels of the twentieth century. The award-winning Merchant Ivory film adaptation in 1985 was voted number nine in The Guardian’s list of the best romantic films of all time.
Felicity Kendal plays Charlotte Bartlett. One of the UK’s most popular actresses, she shot to fame in The Good Life and has won numerous awards for her stage work. Recent credits include Alan Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking and Noel Coward’s Hay Fever, both of which enjoyed successful West End runs.
Imogen Sage’s theatre credits include Rebecca (Kneehigh), The School for Scheming (Orange Tree Theatre) and Measure for Measure (Sam Wanamaker Festival / Globe Theatre).
Tom Morley’s theatre credits include Five Finger Exercise at The Print Rooms and Pitcairn at Chichester Festival Theatre and UK tour.
Charlie Anson’s theatre credits include American Psycho at The Almeida, Afraid of the Dark at Charing Cross Theatre and Arcadia at the Manchester Library Theatre/The Lowry.
Joanne Pearce is an Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her theatre credits include Kean (the Apollo Theatre), How Love Is Spelt ( Bush Theatre), and A Woman Of No Importance (Theatre Royal Haymarket.
David Killick has worked for several seasons with the RSC between 1990 – 2001. Recent Theatre includes The King’s Speech (tour and West End), The Captain of Kopenick (National theatre) and The Importance of Being Earnest (tour and West End).
Susie Fairfax’s theatre work includes seasons at the RSC, Theatre of Comedy, Lyceum Edinburgh and Soho Poly.
Abigail McKern’s theatre credits include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Theatre Clwyd), Brave New World (Northampton Theatre) and Shakespeare in Love (Noel Coward Theatre).
Jeff Rawle’s theatre credits include Lawrence After Arabia (Hampstead Theatre), Waiting for Godot (Sheffield Crucible), High Society (Old Vic Theatre) and Handbagged (Tricycle Theatre / West End transfer).
Simon Jones is probably best known for 2 UK roles, Bridey in TV’s Brideshead Revisited and Arthur Dent in the radio, TV & stage versions of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. His most recent UK appearances have been in Blithe Spirit (with Angela Lansbury) in London’s West End in 2014, and Amadeus at Chichester Festival (with Rupert Everett) later that same year.
Jack Loxton’s theatre credits include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and War Horse (National Theatre).
The recipient of more than 20 Olivier Award nominations, Adrian Noble was the Artistic Director of the RSC from 1990-2003. He recently directed The Importance of Being Earnest which starred David Suchet.
