PRODUCTION CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT
Producer Tom O’Connell has announced that he has acquired the stage rights for Annie Proulx’s award winning short story BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.
The movie Brokeback Mountain became a cultural phenomenon in 2005, winning multiple awards
including Golden Globes, BAFTAs and the Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and Best Score but this powerful and deeply moving tale has never before been seen on stage as a play. A new adaptation is currently in development by Tom O’Connell Productions Ltd, with a production planned for a London opening in 2016.
In 1963, two young men, Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist, are hired for the summer to look after sheep at a remote grazing range on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming. Unexpectedly, alone in the wilderness, they form an intense emotional and physical bond that will change their lives forever. And over the next twenty years, as their separate lives play out through marriages, children and dead-end jobs, they long to be together, back on Brokeback Mountain, in a place where there are no secrets, only each other.
Annie Proulx said, “I am looking forward with sharp anticipation to the stage interpretation of the starcrossed lovers of “Brokeback Mountain” who moved from the page to the screen and now, under the skilled hand of producer Tom O’Connell and the sensibilities of the company, to the stage —a strange journey for two messed-up wannabe cow-hands from Wyoming. The actors who pull on their scuffed-up boots will step into a difficult time in a hard place.”
