Cast announced for Canned Goods, a ripping story of deception and survival on the eve of WWII

Canned Goods makes its UK debut at Southwark Playhouse Borough Thursday 16th January – Saturday 8th February 2025

The cast and creative team have been announced for the critically acclaimed U.S. production of Canned Goods, which will make its highly anticipated London debut at Southwark Playhouse Borough in the New Year.

Who’s in the cast?

The cast playing the prisoners includes Tom Wells (Waterloo RoadEastEnders), Charlie Archer (Mission: Impossible – FalloutNew Blood), and Rowan Polonski (Kingsman: The Secret ServiceGood Omens). Watching over the prison are Dan Parr (Silent WitnessCasualty) as SS Major Naujocks and Joe Mallalieu (Coronation StreetEndeavour) as the Guard. Danny Mellor (Happy ValleyThe Full Monty) joins the cast as the swing.

Creative team

The creative team includes writer Erik Kahn (Moses in Berlin, More Equal) and director Charlotte Cohn (Church & State, Baltimore in Black and White). The production also features set and 2 costume designer Mona Camille (Kim’s Convenience, Henry V), lighting designer Ryan Joseph Stafford (Snakes and Ladders, Hir), sound designer Anna Short (Beyond Her Years, Lady Dealer), and casting directors Jessica Jefferies (Disney, Universal Studios) and Emma Sylvester (Doctors, Father Brown).

What’s the show about?

Set in 1939 on the eve of World War II, this gripping thriller unfolds on the tense border between Germany and Poland, as Hitler’s false flag operation to justify a Nazi invasion looms. The production follows a German farmer Franciszek Honiok, who is held captive alongside two other prisoners, as they are forced to confront the terrifying unknown.
