There are big savings to be had on London theatre tickets – but don’t always believe the headlines as if they sound too good to be true – maybe they aren’t quite what they seem.
Taking The Great Gatsby at the London Coliseum as an example, there are lots of exciting discounts flying around the internet with some offering between 42-78% discount on tickets.
So let’s take a look at some of them to see just how good a deal they really are.
I looked at the same seats across three websites advertising big discounts.
These seats on the official London Coliseum website are priced face value at £175 each, so that is the ‘official’ price.
LoveTheatre.com – say save up to 44% which is true, but only on certain price bands and not for the seats we are looking at for this example. In fact, they are £35 more expensive than buying them direct from the official website.
£55 seats are discounted to £40 (a saving of £15) which is a good deal but not necessarily a saving of 39% as it states. Third party ticketing websites often mark the prices up quite a bit and so the percentage of discount isn’t really something you should take notice of – I would always compare the ticket price to the official website to see exactly what the saving is (or is not).
£108 tickets are discounted by 31% to £75 and the official ticket price is £90 so you are getting a £15 discount here too.
LondonTheatreDirect.com – save up tp 42%
Ok, so these seats are discounted by £82 to £135 which is a £40 discount from the official website price but again, these tickets are £217 each which is a lot more than face value but with the discount it is a good price.
TodayTix.com – save up to 78%
These are the real winners here. Not only is the discount percentage much higher but the ticket price is much lower at just £45. When the face value is £175, this discount is a saving of £130!
As I always say, shop around before buying tickets because you really never know where the best prices will actually appear!
