Pop Star Jessie J turned down the chance to star in CABARET

This morning, during a live broadcast of the BBC 2 radio show The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, pop star Jessie J (whilst promoting her new single “No Secrets”) revealed that she had recently been offered the chance to play Sally Bowles in the Broadway production of Cabaret but turned it down in order to spend more time with her son who was born in May 2023.

“I recently got offered a huge role on Broadway but I turned it down because it wasn’t the right time. My son was too young and I just couldn’t. I will do it at some point and it was an amazing audition process and I was so proud that I got it.”

Jessie J attended Colin’s Performing Arts School in Romford, Essex and at 11-years-old was cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s West End production of Whistle Down the Wind. She went on to join the National Youth Music Theatre before joining the BRIT School where she graduated in 2006 along with Adele and Leona Lewis. During the radio show she continued “It’s my training, that’s what I did, musical theatre, it’s my favourite”.

Radio DJ Scott Mills asked “what show was it?” to which she replied “it was Cabaret, to play Sally Bowles. I really wanted to do it but it just wasn’t the right time, I just wanted to spend more time with my son and going to New York wasn’t right. But doing Broadway and Musicals (I want to write one) it’s my passion.”
