The UK & Ireland Tour of Dolly Parton’s 9 TO 5 – THE MUSICAL kicked off last night at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham. Or should I say ‘it all kicked off at the opening night’ when several show stops caused audience members to heckle, resulting in the show being cancelled.
According to reports on social media, an oil spillage on stage caused the show to be stopped as the cast kept slipping over. After a delay, the show continued but with cast members wearing trainers to give them better grip on the slippery floor. This didn’t work as well as planned and caused the show to be stopped for a second time.
Eventually the cast came out on stage to perform the rest of the show as a ‘concert version’ so that whilst it wasn’t possible to continue the staged performance, at least people could still hear the songs.
But apparently the audience weren’t happy and started booing and heckling the cast on stage, demanding refunds. Some of the cast are said to have run off stage crying and eventually the show was cancelled and the audience told they would receive refunds.
The 9 to 5 Twitter account have said that they expect the show to go ahead today as planned and have been working to resolve the issues from last night.
