Last week is was confirmed that West End performers Lucie Jones and David Hunter will return to the roles of Jenna and Dr Pomatter in Waitress the Musical on Monday 23 March, as planned, after Broadway performers Sara Bareilles (who also wrote the musical) and Gavin Creel end their run at the Adelphi Theatre on 21 March.
However, due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and air travel becoming more and more restricted, it was announced that last night would actually mark the end of their runs in the show, to enable them to travel back to their homes in America before a complete shut down on air travel is potentially put in to place.
It has not yet been announced whether Lucie and David will return to the roles immediately or not and with the government looking like it will announce a ban on any events over five hundred people during the next few days, it looks like the West End may be shutting down like the theatre scene has on Broadway.
Waitress is set to close in the West End on 4 July 2020 and a new UK and Ireland tour will open in Dublin in November 2020.
