For one night only – AN EVENING WITH TIM RICE at THE UNION THEATRE

Tim Rice

Celebrating the premiere of Blondel, multi award-winning composer Tim Rice is to take part in a special evening to talk about his life and career in the West End, on Broadway and Hollywood movies.

An Evening With Tim Rice will take place on Sunday June 25 at The Union Theatre.

Tim said: “Im delighted to be appearing – for one night only – at the wonderful Union Theatre. It is one of the great cultural venues of London, and frequently shows theatres three times the size how to put on a show. I’ve chosen half a dozen or so of my favourite songs to be performed live. I’m hoping for a lot of audience participation – in the Q & A anyway – and they can expect some lively chat about famous hits, infamous flops and the present state of the business. There’s a lot going on out there – good, bad and ugly – but it’s undeniably an exciting time for musical theatre.”

A brand new version of the Tim Rice musical comedy Blondel, which follows the trials and triumphs of an ambitious minstrel in King Richard the Lionheart’s court, will get its London premiere at the Union Theatre from Wednesday 21 June – Saturday 15 July. Press night is Friday 23 June at 7.30pm.

Tim is an author and Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Tony Award, and Grammy Award-winning lyricist. He is best known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, with whom he wrote Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita; with Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson of ABBA, with whom he wrote Chess; for additional songs for the 2011 West End revival of The Wizard of Oz; and for his work for Walt Disney Studios with Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, King David), Elton John (The Lion King, Aida, The Road to El Dorado) and Ennio Morricone. One of the most celebrated lyricists in British popular culture, Rice was knighted for services to music in 1994. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is an inductee into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, is a Disney Legend recipient, and is a fellow of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.

An Evening With Tim Rice takes place on Sunday June 25 at 7.00pm at the Union Theatre.
