Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea – coming to the Bridge Theatre

The Lady from the Sea is a thrilling dissection of desire, loss and rebirth for the contemporary age.

Richard II starring Jonathan Bailey closes this weekend at the Bridge Theatre. Following its critically-acclaimed run in 2019, the Bridge Theatre’s five-star production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will then return for a limited run 31 May – 20 Aug 2025. A new production of The Lady from the Sea will then play at the Bridge Theatre from 10 September, for 9 weeks until 8 November 2025. Stephen Sondheim‘s highly anticipated revival of Into The Woods will then take the stage 2 Dec 2025 – 18 Apr 2026.

The Lady from the Sea is Henrik Ibsen’s most radically modern portrayal of a woman’s fight for autonomy in her relationship. Fearful she may have settled too easily for a comfortable life married to a well-off doctor, Ellida searches for a way to break the predictable routine her existence has become. When a lover from her past appears at their remote country house, she has to choose between the life she has now built and the one she left behind long ago.

Written and directed by Simon Stone (YermaPhaedra), starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish GirlEx Machina) and marking the return of Andrew Lincoln (Love ActuallyThe Walking Dead) to the London stage.

Further casting to be announced.
