The National Theatre’s acclaimed production of War Horse, today confirmed new dates for its tour of the UK, which begins in a year’s time, on 15 September 2017 in Canterbury.
Tour dates already announced are: Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury (15 September – 14 October 2017), Bristol Hippodrome (18 October – 11 November 2017), the Empire Theatre, Liverpool (15 November – 2 December 2017), New Theatre, Oxford (13 December 2017 – 6 January 2018), Brighton Centre (25 January – 10 February 2018), Bradford Alhambra Theatre (14 February – 10 March 2018) and the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall (14 March – 7 April 2018)
New dates confirmed today are: The Festival Theatre, Edinburgh (18 April – 12 May 2018), The Lowry, Salford (13 – 30 June 2018) and Milton Keynes Theatre (19 September – 6 October 2018). Further tour dates are yet to be announced.
The announcement of the much anticipated return of War Horse to The Lowry in Salford was made today (15 September 2016) by the Director of the National Theatre, Rufus Norris, during an ‘In conversation’ event in Salford with Julia Fawcett OBE, hosted by Gordon Burns.
The 2017-18 UK tour of War Horse coincides with the Centenary commemorations of the end of the First World War and follows the production’s enormously successful first tour of the UK and Ireland in 2013-2014.
Michael Morpurgo’s remarkable story of courage, loyalty and friendship, about a young boy called Albert and his horse Joey, set against the backdrop of the First World War is the most successful play in the National Theatre’s history. It features ground-breaking puppetry work by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, which brings breathing, galloping horses to life on stage.
War Horse received its world premiere on 9 October 2007 at the National Theatre, running for two seasons before transferring to the New London Theatre from March 2009 until March 2016. War Horse, has been seen by over seven million people worldwide in 97 cities and 10 countries. There have been productions in New York, Toronto and Berlin, and tours of the UK and Ireland, South Africa, North America, the Netherlands and Belgium, and most recently China. It has received 25 awards including the Tony Award for Best Play.
