“Issues” raised with Equity over Burlesque the Musical

In an article published by The Stage today, it is said that Equity is working with the cast and producers of Burlesque the Musical after “number of issues” have been raised.

The Stage states that it believes the issues relate to “working hours and conditions, as well as problems with costumes”.

But here is where things get interesting, the article states that “Burlesque the Musical originally ran in Manchester last year, when its creative team included Nick Winston as director and choreographer and Soutra Gilmour as set designer. However, when the show transferred to London, cast member Todrick Hall was announced as director and choreographer, with Nate Bertone listed as the set designer. In addition, Ryan Dawson Laight – who designed the costumes for the show in Manchester is no longer involved in London, with Marco Marco listed instead. The show also has a new lighting designer in Rory Beaton, where it was previously listed as Tony Award winner Jack Knowles. Prolific songwriter Diane Warren was also originally credited on the creative team for Manchester, but is no longer listed as part of the West End show.”

Burlesque the Musical played at the Opera House in Manchester from 3 Oct – 2 Nov 2024 which means in the space of just seven months, the show has taken on new Director, Choreographer, Set Designer, Costume Designer, Lighting Designer and Song Writer!
The West End production of Burlesque the Musical, which opens at London’s Savoy Theatre next week, sounds like it will be quite different from what was seen in Manchester last last year.
I wonder why there have been so many creative changes in such a short space of time?
I’m looking forward to seeing the show for myself and reading the reviews to see what people make of it!
