REVIEW: THE DIANA MIXTAPE at Here @Outernet ★★★ – July 2025

5 drag queens, all playing the people’s princess, Diana, with a poptastic playlist of songs – what more could anyone ask for?

A brand new stage show THE DIANA MIXTAPE is now playing at London’s Here @Outernet.

Featuring pop classics like Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi, Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, Meghan Trainor’s Mother, Beyoncé’s Freakum Dress and Little Mix’s Shout Out to My Ex, songs have been cleverly chosen to tell the story of Diana’s life.

Drag royalty Courtney Act, Baby, Divina De Campo, Priyanka and Kitty Scott-Claus all star as the icon that was Diana, Princess of Wales, in this pop concert style show.

Movie and theatre star Keala Settle certainly can’t be pigeonholed in the work she chooses to do. From starring in movies like The Greatest Showman and WICKED, to performing in hit musicals like & Juliet and now playing  Queen Elizabeth II in a show about Princess Diana’s life, told by five drag queens. She looks like she is living her best life!

Hear’Say popstar turned musical theatre performer Noel Sullivan (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, We Will Rock You) plays up to the villain esq role of King Charles III and Lucinda Lawrence (Cool Rider, London Palladium; 9 to 5 The Musical, The Savoy Theatre) stole the show for me as Queen Camilla and boy can she sing!

The singing from the drag queens wasn’t sensational but who cares – no one is going to see this show for perfect pitch performances! The sound in the venue isn’t great which doesn’t help but it was the right kind of venue for a show like this.

There were some nice elements throughout including a rather clever piecing together of a wedding dress to fit Dianas body. I’ll call it clever but maybe they just hadn’t had time to sew it together (I hear costumes have been an issue in the west end recently).

The Diana Mixtape is fun. If you like drag queens and princess Diana you’ll have a great time.

THE DIANA MIXTAPE is playing at Here @Outernet until 10 August 2025.

Who was Princess Diana?

If you’re young enough to not know who Princess Diana was, she was a nursery school teacher from a well respected family who was ‘selected’ to marry in to the English Royal Family. She married Prince Charles and had two sons (William and Harry). Charles had a mistress Camilla from the very beginning but she wasn’t deemed good enough to join the family (she was in it for the long game though and got her revenge many years later and is now the Queen of England). Diana cared about people and used her status to help raise awareness of things like poverty and AIDS. She was hounded by the media until the very end when she died in a car crash in 1997, whilst being chased by paparazzi.
