Megan Hilty Review – Broadway royalty comes to London ★★★★★

Megan Hilty in Concert at Theatre Royal Drury Lane: ‘Let me be your star’ she sang and she deserves them all.

Broadway sensation and television star Megan Hilty returned to the London stage for the first time since 2018 with two very special solo concerts at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane – and she did not disappoint.

Hilty made her Broadway debut in 2005 as Glinda the Good in Wicked, opposite original Elphaba Idina Menzel. She went on to star in the 2008 Broadway production of 9 to 5, taking on the iconic role made famous by Dolly Parton in the 1981 film.

In 2012 she landed the leading role of Ivy Lynn in NBC’s SMASH, the cult-favourite series about the making of a Broadway musical.

Most recently, in 2026, she originated the role of Madeline Ashton in the Broadway musical premiere of Death Becomes Her, earning a Tony Award nomination for her performance.

The Theatre Royal Drury Lane has become a regular home to Sunday evening concert performances in recent years, and Hilty looked perfectly at home on its grand stage. She sparkled from the moment she stepped into the lights, declaring that we were all now best friends. By the end of the two-hour show, it really did feel like we were.

Opening with “They Just Keep Moving the Line” from SMASH, she peppered the evening with further highlights from the series including “Big Finish,” “Second Hand White Baby Grand” and “Don’t Forget Me / Let Me Be Your Star.” She also revisited Wicked with crowd-pleasing performances of “Popular” and “For Good,” before treating the audience to “For the Gaze” and “Tell Me, Ernest” from Death Becomes Her.

Hilty is a true entertainer, holding the audience in the palm of her hand with charm, humour and a voice that effortlessly switches between belting power and tender vulnerability. The evening took an especially lovely turn when she duetted with her husband and guitarist Brian Gallagher on “Suddenly Seymour” from Little Shop of Horrors, turning the concert into a true family event.

With endearing stories from her career and witty between-song banter, it is impossible not to fall a little bit in love with Megan Hilty.

Her live album Megan Hilty Live at the Café Carlyle, recorded during one of her residencies at New York’s prestigious Café Carlyle, captures some of the same warmth and showmanship she brought to Drury Lane. But there is nothing quite like seeing her do it in person.

A radiant, generous and joyful night of theatre. Here is hoping it isn’t another eight years before she comes back.

‘Let me be your star’ she sang – and she deserves them all.
