Hit musical ‘Come From Away’ to release live recording of stage show for 20th anniversary of 9/11

The Original Broadway Cast of Come From Away are set to come back together to film a special live version of the stage show at its Broadway home the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

Filming is set to take place in May 2021, ahead of a September 2021 release, tying in with the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City.

On 11th September 2001, 7,000 international passengers were emergency landed via plane to the remote border town of Gander, Canada. Known as the “Come From Aways”. Come From Away is based upon interviews with the people of Gander (‘Newfoundlanders’) who took care of the stranded thousands and the growing community in the town set against a backdrop of such monumental cultural tension as well as a lack of outside communication or internet.

The hit musical was due to be turned into a feature film but since the closure of Broadway in March 2020, producers have decided to instead release a live version of the show.

The live recording will be directed by the original Broadway director of Come From Away, Christopher Ashley, who recently also directed the live stage filming of Diana the Musical which is due to be released on Netflix ahead of its planned May 2021 opening on Broadway.

We are living in a world of uncertainty and in any walk of life we are all in need of a sense of community to get us through these troublesome times. Come From Away encompasses this in the most powerful of senses by forcing upon audiences a truly challenging time period to digest though yet suggest we reminisce this with high spirits.
