The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear β or, even better, by heading to the Aldwych Theatre in Londonβs West End for some sparklejollytwinklejingley fun!
After two sold-out runs at the Dominion Theatre, Elf The Musical is back in London with a refreshed production, complete with a brand-new set designed by Tim Goodchild. Rather than traditional scenery, the stage is dominated by a wall-to-wall LED video backdrop β a bold choice that looks fantastic and gives the story a cinematic sparkle.

About the Story
Based on the beloved 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, Elf The Musical follows the story of Buddy, a human who accidentally crawls into Santaβs sack as a baby and grows up at the North Pole believing heβs one of Santaβs elves.
Way too tall and not so handy with toy-making, Buddy becomes the North Poleβs biggest misfit. When Santa finally tells him the truth about his human heritage, Buddy sets off for New York City to find his real father β who happens to be on the naughty list. After a series of hilarious and heart-warming adventures, Buddy learns the true meaning of family and helps save Christmas when Santaβs sleigh crashes in Central Park.
Joel Montague Shines as Buddy the Elf
Taking on the lead role this year is Joel Montague, who delivers a spectacular performance as Buddy the Elf. Never off stage, Montague brings all the energy, innocence, and festive warmth you could want from this loveable character. His boundless enthusiasm makes him an absolute joy to watch.
At the performance I attended, Mollie Cleere stepped into the role of Jovie while Carrie Hope Fletcher is on holiday from the show. Jovie is a smaller role than you might expect, but Cleere gave a lovely, understated performance. Itβll be fascinating to see the real-life chemistry between Carrie Hope Fletcher and her husband Joel Montague when they share the stage again.
Elsewhere, Rosanna Hyland shines as Emily Hobbs, capturing warmth and sincerity in every scene. Lucinda Lawrence also gives a standout performance as Deb, adding a spark of humour and heart to the office scenes.
Final Thoughts
This is, without doubt, the best version of Elf The Musical Iβve seen. Thereβs something about this production that hits you right in the heart, overflowing with enough festive joy to make even the bleakest sleigh soar.
With its dazzling visuals, energetic performances, and plenty of snow, Elf The Musical at the Aldwych Theatre is the ultimate feel-good Christmas show in London.
So, grab your candy canes, embrace your inner elf, and remember β the best way to spread Christmas cheer is by seeing this show loud and clear.
