The Broadway smash hit musical DEATH BECOMES HER might be making its way to London’s West End

Based on the 1992 film, starring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Bruce Willis and Isabella Rossellini, Death Becomes Her tells the story of Madeline Ashton, the most beautiful actress (just ask her) ever to grace the stage and screen and Helen Sharp, the long-suffering author (just ask her) who lives in her shadow.
They have always been the best of frenemies…until Madeline steals Helen’s fiancé away. As Helen plots revenge and Madeline clings to her rapidly fading star, their world is suddenly turned upside down by Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a secret that’s to die for.
After one sip of Viola’s magical potion, Madeline and Helen begin a new era of life (and death) with their youth and beauty restored…and a grudge to last eternity.
The Tony award winning musical opened at Broadway’s Lunt Fontanne Theatre in November 2024 (following a run in Chicago in May 2024) starring Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard who have received praise for their comedic timing, chemistry, and performances.
Death Becomes Her the Musical received 10 nominations at the 78th Tony Awards, including Best Musical and with its viral TikTok trend of ‘that, was, rude’, the show looks set to enjoy a happy life on stage.
According to the London ticketing website, London Theatre Direct, ‘the killer comedy will be making its West End transfer soon’.
Whilst no official announcement has been made and a venue not yet confirmed, with Tina – The Tina Turner Musical closing at the Aldwych Theatre in September, could Death Becomes Her the Musical make its West End premiere in London later this year?
I’m off to Broadway in a couple of week to see the show but I have heard nothing but sensational things and so I hope the rumours are true and it is headed to London very soon!
